Nigel Gooch, FRPSL, has been named as the recipient of this year’s Congress Medal.
Nigel has made and continues to make many contributions to UK organised philately at national, specialist and local society level.
If financial expertise is required Nigel is always willing to take on responsibility for national philatelic companies and societies. His services have been invaluable to ABPS. He has served on the Executive Committee of ABPS as a Director of that company since 2007 in the position of Treasurer and Company Secretary with responsibilities for the production of the annual accounts for Companies House and HM Revenue and Customs.
Nigel is also a Director of ABPS Exhibitions Ltd and as a member of the ABPS Exhibition and International Committee which involves making international payments as well as day to day financial matters. As Company Secretary for Stamp World Exhibitions, which organises the exhibiting side of Stampex, he has the added responsibility for providing figures for VAT returns made to HM Revenue and Customs.
He has also served on the Organising Committee for Europhilex 2015 again with overall responsibility for finance, cash flow and budgets. He also spent five years as Treasurer of the Royal Philatelic Society London serving on both Council and the Management Committee and as a Director of RPSL Ltd. A member of Stamp Active Network since 2011 he acts as its Treasurer and a fund raiser not to mention working on the Stampex stand as a volunteer to assist in attracting and helping young collectors.
At specialist society level he has been a valuable officer of the Iran Philatelic Study Circle since 1969 and Past President of the Society of Postal Historians. At local society level he assists with the organisation of the annual local Crowborough Stamp Fair with which he has been associated for the past 25 years. In is quieter moments he is an active member of three local societies.
The above mentioned work in three different categories demonstrates that Nigel Gooch is a worthy recipient of the Congress Medal for 2020.
