Handstruck Unpaid Charge Marks of the Uniform Penny Post of Great Britain 1840-1853

Exhibitor: Prof Peter ChadwickClass: Postal HistoryAward:Gold
Description:

This exhibit explores the handstruck “numeral” charge marks used to indicate “Postage Due” charges payable on delivery in the Uniform Penny Post. Prepayment marks have been widely studied, but unpaid marks have been given little attention. This exhibit, and a book currently in preparation, address this shortfall.
